Sunrise Couture Kids {Midland & Odessa, TX – Boutique Photographer}

My Couture Kids session bring out the beauty and elegance in your child, while keeping it fun for child.  My children adore fancy dresses, and feel like a real princess when they have the opportunity to dress up.   This sunny, warm morning was no exception.  From her lace headband down to her satin bodice and tulle skirt, she enjoyed feeling like a princess for a morning!

Her face lit up when she saw how beautiful she looked.  As a mother, these are images I will print and hang on my walls.  As for my child, the experience was worth a 1000 words.

I couldn’t help adding a touch of whimsy to the last image, complete with a tiny Tinkerbell!

Perception of Appearance {Midland & Odessa, TX Boutique Portrait Photographer}

Perception is a tough road. I find it so sad when I hear my customers telling me they think they look horrible in an image I took of them. Why, you ask? Because where they see a little extra fluff around the middle they have struggled to loose their whole life, I see perfection and beauty. I honestly don’t even notice the “fluff” they see, and thats even with magnifying and editing each image.

A fellow photographer once told me that he tells customers before he shows them their images, that they may not say anything negative about themselves. If they want to know how they look in an image, they need to ask their partner. It’s true. You see a double chin, your husband sees his beautiful wife, and I see gorgeous image of two people who love each other.  I loved what he said so much, I have adapted it into my own practices.

Lets take a look at my family pictures. I have this image hanging as a 40×30 canvas on my bedroom wall. I look at it every day. My kids and husband see it every day. I look at myself and see my stringy, curly hair. You know what? I asked both my girls what they saw when they looked at our family in the picture. My youngest daughter said she sees me, and her and her sister and her father. I asked her if there was anything else. That was it. She saw us as a family. My older daughter, I asked the same question. Her answer, her family together. They don’t see my hair, they didn’t mention ANYTHING about anybodies looks. They saw their family because their family is what is important to them.

Every one has insecurities about themselves, but in the end we have to do our best to remember how we view ourselves is not how others view us. That putting aside your insecurities and stepping in front of the camera, documenting ourselves and our family is what’s most important. One we are gone, it’s pictures our loved ones hold dear.

So next time you are putting off family pictures, or look at your self in your families pictures, remember, how you look is not important to your loved ones, it’s the togetherness that is!

Couture Kids {Midland & Odessa, TX – Boutique Photographer}

My daughter adores purple, so when I decided to put together these Couture Kids sessions, creating a purple dress for her was a must. These sessions were designed to instill the child with a sense of beauty and grace, so I crafted a full skirt tutu dress, complete with 10 yards of tulle, added a grey rosette with rhinestones in her hair and dabbed a touch of sparkly lip color on her lips. She felt like a million dollars!

After I showed her the images I edited, she beamed with pride! She LOVED how they turned out!

For a touch of fantasy and whimsy, I added a set of fairy wings to one of the images. She looks like a gorgeous fairy,  immersed in her wooded surroundings 🙂

Doggy and Kitty Newborn Session {Midland & Odessa, TX – Newborn Photographer}

I was inspired by a doggy newborn session I had seen done for fun by another photographer last year.  If you know me, you know I love my doggy!  Trained or not, I didn’t think he would be as willing of a participant as the other dog was and fall asleep in a wrap on the bed for me, but figured I would still give it a shot.  I was right, he was stressed, confused but wanting to please, so he still listened to me when I told him to “down” and stay”.  I was able to get a few good shots before I decided he had had enough, including a “sibling” shot with my youngest daughter 🙂

I couldn’t leave the kitten out, so she got one of her own.  She is pretty playful so the cute bonnet I tried on her was a no go!  And there would have been no way she would have tolerated a cute headband, so it was a pink wrap )which she did still try and attack) and a doll basket.  She loves baskets!  Once again, I couldn’t forget the “sibling” shot!

Family in Jackson Hole {Midland & Odessa, Family Photographer}

Finally got around to taking my own family pictures.  It’s much harder to be in them than behind the lens!  However, we had a vacation to Jackson Hole, WY, it was a must.  I set the camera settings and gave a friend we were staying with instructions on how to focus my camera.  I love the way they turned out!  So pretty with the mountains.
